Patriot Acres is a 4th generation family run farm. Brian and his wife, Shawna, and son, Cooper, live on the 103 acre farm in Sudlersville, Maryland, that has been in the Truitt family for over 100 years. They started with alpacas and a few chickens, but now have expanded to over 150+ chickens, 13 alpacas, 1 duck, 2 geese, 18 goats, 3 sheep, 3 cats, 4 livestock guardian dogs and 2 farm dogs.
We are often asked why we choose alpacas, the answer is as simple as it is complicated. After careful research and consideration, alpacas simply fit our goals. As a family and as a farm, our goals are to be stewards of nature. Alpacas are gentle on the earth with their padded feet. They are modified ruminants with three compartment stomachs, and they eat very little in comparison to other livestock. They use the bathroom in a communal pile making clean up easy, and since it has been thoroughly digested, the dung can be used on gardens without composting first. Each alpaca provides several pounds of luxurious fiber each year, which we process here on our farm.
OUTSIDE PETS ARE NOT PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE FARM!
